On heavy rotation here over the last couple of weeks. B. Cool-Aid’s (Pink Siifu & Ahwlee) imagining of the Leather Blvd.. Whilst it might not be a real place, their vivid portrayal hereof with a very wide cast of characters populating this record, got us right there on the boulevard.
Songs that go through a wide variety of moods, modes and styles. Not unlike life can be. They’ll show how the voice and different styles of instrumentation can interlock whilst staying cohesive as a whole. A whole lot of live instrumentation combined with modern tricks as sampling, looping and multi-tracking. Not only combining these techniques, they’ll also show you where they get some of their chops from. From classic soul records to the hip-hop influenced realm of their contemporaries down in L.A…. the trip down the boulevard is a long ride and the pressure is definitively on.

Picture Black co-op-owned beauty shops, health food stores, weed spots, nightclubs, bookstores, bars, etc., on either side of a wide and impossibly long street. Now picture people of every size and shape and shade of brown hustling and bustling up and down the street, just living their lives. There is such a place, even if it’s not technically real.
