Description

Three tracks dedicated to dancefloors issued from the Algerian diaspora !

This 12'' features two songs from Hanini, a late 90s/early 00s band from the north of France playing modern allaoui — a traditional war music originating from Tlemcen’s backcountry (the biggest city near Oran). Allaoui is also a genre played for marriages, and Hanini was very popular for juicing up those events: they were sought after throughout France back in the days.

The first track (‘Allaoui’) is a skeletal although devastating percussive hit — a rearranged version of the traditional form, with an expanded orchestration (including a groovy bassline). Clearly in the vein of DJ Snake’s ‘Disco Maghreb’ summer hit. DJs, this is for you. ‘Mel’ha Marghbouna’ (A2) is a more euphoric and generous stomper with cool vocals, killer synths solos and funky offbeat guitar riffs. A step deeper into the modernization of the genre.

The third one — B side — is an insane 10 minutes house-music sample mash-up from the one and only Rachid Baba Ahmed. It features samples from 49ers, Fadela & Sahraoui and Cheb Khaled. It stands as a direct answer to 49ers’ 'Die Walküre’. In this late 80s early- house/dance music hit, the italian band sampled Rachid Baba Ahmed’s production and Chaba Fadela & Cheb Sahraoui’s worldwide hit ‘N’sel Fik’. Rachid gives them back in kind.
