Description

Just in time for the new cycle of transformation that the ancient Mayan calendar says is underway, Kai “KZR” Alce of NDATL offers the release of “Olmec Save Us” by R&B powerhouse Donnie !The title references an ancient civilization in Mesoamerica, one that laid the foundation for many to come, including the Mayans. The Olmec were credited with many innovations – and innovation is a recurring, and appropriate, theme throughout “Olmec Save Us.” Donnie’s powerful spoken word journey that spans from the origins of mankind to modern times is a notable departure from the soulful singing heard on his two albums, The Colored Section and The Daily News. “Olmec Save Us” was featured on Defected Presents Osunlade In the House earlier this year. Now the for the first time being released as a single on vinyl. The original mixes produced by Alce is marked by high-end tones and layered, multitracked vocals. The musicality conveys an otherworldly, high-frequency vibration and is generally more percussive, with greater emphasis on the keyboards (played by Ricky Corey). While listeners are treated to the full-length original versions of Donnie’s epic tale, the Yoruba Soul Mix by noted house producer Osunlade allows for a deeper interpretation of the overall message. Also included are instrumentals of both versions that will have house heads anticipating personal and creative transformation through the sound and on the dance floor.
