Steve Sandberg grew up in Brooklyn, NY, started classical piano lessons at age 4, went to Yale and met art historian Robert Farris Thompson, who turned him onto African art, culture, music, dance and encouraged his newfound love affair with Latin music. He moved back to Manhattan and got very involved in that scene - ended up playing with such luminaries as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Mario Rivera, etc. From there, he got into Brazilian music, was Bebel Gilberto's Musical Director/songwriter for many years in New York/Brazil. He has toured with David Byrne and Ruben Blades. He became Musical Director and composer for Dora the Explorer when the show first went on the air in 2000, wrote all the underscoring and many songs for 5 seasons, as well as 3 seasons of Go Diego Go. He was nominated for 3 Emmies during that time. In 2009-2010, Steve created "Elastic Plastic Generation" This project brings together a lifetime of love for Latin music, house music, NYC club music, and jazz. A one-man project, Steve produced, did the beats, wrote all the lyrics and did all vocals.
